Oseni Becomes First Irish-Born Super Eagles Player

Plymouth Argyle striker Owen Oseni has expressed his pride after making history with Nigeria at the 2026 Unity Cup in London.

The 23-year-old earned his first senior cap in the Super Eagles’ semi-final victory over Zimbabwe, coming on as a second-half substitute. He also featured from the bench in Nigeria’s triumph over Jamaica in the tournament final.

With those appearances, Oseni became the first Irish-born player to represent the three-time African champions. Reflecting on the achievement, the former Derby County forward described it as a moment of lasting significance for himself and his family.

‘To be the first Irish kid to play for the Super Eagles will be a moment me and my family will cherish forever,’ Oseni wrote on Instagram.

Despite being born in Ireland, Oseni committed his international future to Nigeria and has now been named in the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
