Osimhen expected to be fit to seek seventh goal involvement against Atalanta on Saturday

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is expected to be fit for Napoli’s Serie A clash with Atalanta this weekend at the Stadio Digo Armando Maradona when league matches returned after the international break.

Osimhen has been following a personalised training regime at the club’s training ground since he could not join the rest of his national teammates for friendly games.

Osimhen, who has battled occasional fitness problems this season from knocks, pulled out of Nigeria’s international friendly clashes against Ghana and Mali, after Napoli reportedly appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to allow the reigning African footballer of the year stay back to focus on recovering from an injury he was said to have picked up during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Before the international break, the 25-year-old was an unused substitute in Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Inter Milan at the San Siro.

According to Sky Sports via Areanapoli on Monday, the Nigeria star, who is yet to be fully fit, will likely lead his side’s attack at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium against the Gian Gasperini wards.

‘According to what the Sky editorial team reports, against Gasperini’s team the attack should be led by Victor Osimhen, who is not yet in optimal physical condition, but who is following a personalized program after the after-effects of the Africa Cup of Nations.

‘Mister Calzona will find a player ready to face the final rush in which participation in the most prestigious cup in Europe is at stake. Furthermore, the satellite broadcaster underlines, he scored his first goal in Serie A at Atalanta,’ it wrote in a publication.

Osimhen will be seeking for his seventh goal involvement against Ademola Lookman’s club in eight appearances. He has scored twice and provided four assists in seven games against the Bergamo side.
