Osimhen, Lookman, Bassey make CAF’s AFCON 2025 Best XI

Nigeria’s brilliance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been rewarded with three players included by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the tournament’s Best XI released on Wednesday.
Ademola Lookman makes the list for the second consecutive tournament, while Victor Osimhen is included for the first time.
Calvin Bassey, who was a trojan in the defence for the Super Eagles, occupies the left side of the centre-back in a 4-3-3 formation.
Nigeria finished the tournament with a bronze medal, beating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the third-place playoff.
Senegal and hosts Morocco, who both finished as winner and runners-up respectively, have four players each.
Notably in the team is Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who won the Goalkeeper Of The Tournament.
The Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Sadio Mane, is in the attack alongside Osimhen and Brahim Diaz, the tournament’s top scorer with five goals.
Pape Gueye, whose strike in extra-time won the final for the Teranga Lions, is also in the team.
Morocco captain Ashraf Hakimi and Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, also made the cut.
