Osimhen nets first club career hat-trick, equals Simy’s Serie A goal record

Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick on Saturday to lead his club, SSS Napoli to a comprehensive 4-0 annihilation of mid-table Sassuolo at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Napoli.

It was the Nigerian’s first Serie A hat-trick since he joined from French Ligue 1 side, Lille in September 2020 and eighth goal in 10 games across all competitions for the Partenopei so far this season.

It was also the 23 year old’s first club career hat-trick since he started his club career with Bundesliga side, VFL Wolfsburg where he featured 14 times without scoring.

Osimhen has now scored 31 Serie A goals in 59 games to equal the Italian top-flight goal record by a Nigerian held by Simy Nwankwo.

Interestingly, while it took Simy 101 games to score his 31 goals across three seasons, Osimhen achieved his in 59 games and across two seasons.
