Osimhen nets second Napoli hat trick, sets personal scoring record and equals a Maradona feat

Victor Osimhen was truly on song at the Studio Mapel-Citta del Tricolore on Wednesday evening, scoring his second hattrick in the Serie A and club football
and in the process set a personal scoring record against a club in Italy.

Interestingly, Osimhen’s first hattrick in the Serie A was against Sassuolo.

The Nigerian netted thrice in Napoli’s 4-0 demolition of Sassuolo in October 2022 and the former Lille of France forward netted thrice again on Wednesday.
Osimhen has now scored nine goals in seven games against Sassuolo, the most he has scored against any club in Italy and Europe.

The 25 year old put Napoli ahead on 31 minutes after Amir Rrahmani had on 29 minutes cancelled Sassolo’s goal scored by Uros Racic against the run of play.

He netted his second of the game in the 41st minute before adding the third immediately after the restart.

Osimhen has now cut the lead between him and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez in the Serie A top scorer’s race to 11 goals as the Argentina still tops with his
22 goals.

The Super Eagles star who has now scored five goals in three games since he came back from the Africa Cup of Nations, according to Opta Paolo, has also equalled a Diego Maradona record in Italy.

He has become only the third player in Napoli’s history to score at least 10 goals in four consecutive seasons in Serie A, after Maradona (between 1984/85 and 1987/88) and Attila Sallustro (between 1929/30 and 1932/33).
