Osimhen Sets Süper Lig Shot Record, Leads Golden Boot Race

Victor Osimhen produced another extraordinary display for Galatasaray against Göztepe, scoring once and providing an assist while setting a new Süper Lig benchmark for the most shots by a player in a single match since the 2014/15 season, when Opta’s records for the competition began.

The Nigeria international attempted 15 shots in the match, with six on target, while also recording 18 touches in the opposition box and winning 13 duels.

Osimhen scored once and created another goal in Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory, further underlining his influence in the Turkish champions’ attack.

The 27-year-old has now scored five goals in his opening three Süper Lig appearances, moving ahead of Eldor Shomurodov, who has scored three goals from the same number of matches, as the Nigerian takes an early lead in the race for the league’s Golden Boot.

Osimhen has also attempted 31 shots in three league matches, more than the combined total of the three players closest to him in the competition’s shot rankings.

Ahmed Kutucu, Gabriel Sara and Sekou Koita have each taken 10 shots in three matches, giving the trio a combined total of 30, still one fewer than Osimhen’s individual tally of 31.

The prolific start puts Osimhen on course to challenge for the Süper Lig’s Golden Boot as he looks to reclaim the award he won during his first season with Galatasaray.
