Osimhen takes Serie A tally to 40 goals in 68 games
Inches closer to Simy's record, takes number of braces to seven

Victor Osimhen scored a brace Sunday afternoon to help Napoli defeat Spezia 3-0 in a Serie A game played at the Stadio Alberto Picco in Spezia, Italy.
The brace has taken the Nigerian’s goal tally for the season to 16 from 17 Serie A games and solidifies his position in the top scorer’s race for the 2022/23 season.
It is the third time this season the former Lille of France forward has scored at least two goals in the Serie A after netting three times in Napoli’s 4-0 of Sassuolo in October last year and in the 5:1 demolition of Juventus last month at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Overall, the Napoli forward has netted at least twice in seven Serie A games since he made his debut in the competition in September 2020.
Osimhen has now scored 40 goals in the competition in 68 games and his 16th for the season means he is just four goals shy of the 20 Simy Nwankwo scored in the 2020/21 season to become the top scoring Nigerian in a Serie A season.
The brace has also moved Osimhen to score in the 2022-23 Golden Shoe race behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland who leads with the 25 Premier League goals he he has scored prior to Sunday evening’s game between his club and Tottenham.
