Owen, Carragher and Wright: Arsenal deserved victory Vs Liverpool

Premier League pundits Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright believe Arsenal deserved their 3-1 defeat of Liverpool in their super Sunday clash at the Emirates stadium.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leonadro Trossard were enough for the Gunners to reduce Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to two points.

Owen, who scored 150 goals in 326 Premier League appearances with 118 of the goals in 216 games for Liverpool says his former side were not that badly but conceeded the Gunners deserved the win.

‘Liverpool didn’t play badly. Arsenal are a very good team and going away to them is a tough game. It is tiny details and a little mistake here or there is the fine margins. We are talking about two of the top sides in the world. On balance, I think Arsenal deserved it.’

Caragher, who played a staggering 508 times for Liverpool in the Premier League disagreed that ‘Liverpool didn’t play badly’ claim by Owen.

‘Arsenal deserved to win, Liverpool were not at the races’ he said.

Ian Wright, a former Arsenal forward who netted 113 goals in 213 Premier League games hailed Mikel Arteta’s men for keeping the focus even after gifting a goal away at the end of the first half.

‘It was an incredible performance, because of the importance of the game. I said before the game we cannot lose. We started brilliantly and then gave away a soft goal but didn’t get their heads down.’
