Paul Scholes: ‘Man United cannot afford to sack Ten Hag’

Two-time Manchester United Champions League winner Paul Scholes says his former club cannot afford to sack its manager, Erik ten Hag after yet another loss, this time in Copenhagen Wednesday evening in a Champions League game.

The Red Devils conceded two late goals after playing more than half the match with 10 men following Marcus Rashford’s red card to lose 4-3 to FC Copenhagen and slump to last place in its Champions League group on Wednesday.

It was their third loss in Group A in four games.

Speaking to TNT Sport after the game, Scholes feels Ten Hag will escape the sack.

“I still don’t feel like there’s that much pressure on Erik ten Hag. He had a good year and bought some time. He’s had bad injuries but nine defeats in 17 is not good enough.

“I know United have sacked before, but I don’t think they can afford to keep doing that.

“Ten Hag got unlucky tonight, but United put up a good fight. They lacked a bit of leadership. It’s not easy to play away in Europe.

“It’s just that collapsing that’s hurting them. Once they concede one it feels like another is coming. You can’t keep doing that every week.”

There are two games left for Manchester United to rescue their Champions League campaign starting away at Galatasaray at the end of the month before hosting Bayern Munich December 12.

They will exit the competition if they lose in Turkey in three weeks.
