Peseiro: Reaching AFCON final is Super Eagles’ sole focus

Super Eagles coach José Peseiro says his side are fully fixated on reaching the Africa Cup of Nations final as they prepare to face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Wednesday’s semi-final in Bouake.

‘We’re in the semis, there’s great team spirit and commitment and we’re playing as a unit,’ Peseiro said at the pre-match press conference.

‘We have a huge game against a strong team in South Africa and we want to win to reach the final because that is our goal.’

Peseiro concedes it will not be a walk in the Park for his team albeit they have won all three encounters against South Africa, scoring eight and conceding just once since they first met at the semifinal stage of the competition 24 years ago in Lagos.

“It’s a high level game and we know their quality, capacity and spirit – they have great players,” he said.

“My players need to give 100% or more to win and achieve our target of making the final.”

Nigeria are hunting a fourth African crown as they look to add to their titles from 1980, 1994 and 2013.
