Port Harcourt International Marathon 2026 Unveiled as ‘The Green Race’

Port Harcourt to the World (PHTTW) has officially announced the 2026 Port Harcourt International Marathon, themed “The Green Race,” with the event scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 14, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The organisers said the marathon represents a significant milestone in their broader vision of positioning Port Harcourt as a leading destination for international sports, sustainable development, tourism and community engagement.

Beyond the race itself, organisers described “The Green Race” as a movement that integrates sports with environmental sustainability, education, youth development and economic growth.

According to the organisers, the initiative is designed to inspire healthier lifestyles, promote environmental responsibility, strengthen community participation and showcase the vast potential of Port Harcourt on the global stage.

The marathon is anchored on three United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13).

The organisers believe these pillars will ensure the event leaves a lasting legacy that extends well beyond race day.

Thousands of runners from Nigeria and across Africa are expected to participate in the marathon, alongside spectators, tourists, corporate organisations, development partners and members of the international sporting community.

Organisers said the event is being developed as a world-class marathon that will celebrate the resilience, hospitality and vibrant culture of Port Harcourt while promoting sports, sustainability and community development.

In the build-up to the event, a series of activities will be rolled out, including community fitness programmes, environmental clean-up campaigns, tree-planting exercises, a Green Symposium and the School Green Club Initiative.

Registration details, the official race route, sponsorship opportunities, volunteer programmes and the full schedule of activities will be announced in the coming weeks.

Announcing the event, Port Harcourt to the World reaffirmed its commitment to using sport as a vehicle for positive social change.

“Together, we will celebrate the power of sport to unite communities, inspire healthier living, protect our environment, and build a brighter future for Port Harcourt,” the organisers said.
