Portugal Vs Nigeria Friendly: Osimhen, Iwobi, Onuachu in; Iheanacho, Awoniyi out

Peseiro names 23 players for November 17 prestige friendly in Lisbon

Nigerian top scorers in the Serie A Victor Osimhen, Jupiler League, Paul Onuachu and in form midfielder Alex Iwobi topped the list of 23 players Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has for next Thursday’s international friendly game between Nigeria and Portugal in Lisbon.

Also named are captain William Troost-Ekong, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi while conspicuosly missing is the strike duo of Kelechi Iheanacho who has played cameo roles for Leicester City across all competitions so far this season and Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian top scorer in the Premier League this season.

There are however spaces for defenders Calvin Bassey and Kevin Akpoguma, midfielders Ayodele-Aribo and Alex Iwobi, and forwards Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.

Wing back Tyronne Ebuehi makes a long-awaited return to the fold, as hard-as-nails midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo. Defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Bright Osayi Samuel (based in Portugal and Turkey respectively) are called up for the first time.

Thursday’s encounter at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon will kick off at 18.45pm Portugal time (19.45pm in Nigeria)
