Premier League Legend Backs Osimhen for Newcastle’s No. 9 Role

Former Newcastle United star Chris Waddle has called on his old club to make a decisive move for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen this summer.
Speaking about the Nigerian forward’s impact, Waddle praised his style and work ethic, describing him as a player who ‘leaves no stone unturned on the field’ and ‘never shies away from the fight.’
Waddle, who watched Osimhen several times in Turkey this season, admitted he was surprised by the striker’s move to the Süper Lig, insisting his level is ‘way above the Turkish League.’
He emphasized that Newcastle still has not replaced Alexander Isak, who departed for Liverpool last summer, and believes Osimhen would be the perfect fit to lead the line at St. James’ Park.
‘He takes every team in the Premier League to the next level,’ Waddle said, highlighting Osimhen’s aerial dominance, mobility, and technical ability.
‘I would love to see him as Newcastle’s new number 9. If he were available today, at least five other giant clubs would line up for him. At 27, he is entering the peak years of his career.’
Meanwhile, Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek firmly dismissed speculation about a potential transfer.
‘We do not plan to sell Victor Osimhen,’ Özbek stated. ‘Putting a price on a player you don’t plan to sell is like putting a frost on an unborn footballer.’
Osimhen, who played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s 26th Süper Lig championship, remains one of the most sought-after strikers in European football.
His future now stands at the center of attention, with Newcastle and other top clubs monitoring the situation closely.
