Premier League: Opta supercomputer, history favour Arsenal to beat Chelsea

Arsenal have the chance to go three points clear at the top of the Premier League when they host Chelsea at the Emirates stadium on Tuesday night.

A win would take the Gunners up to 77 points ahead of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday and Manchester City’s trip to Brighton on Thursday.

The Opta supercomputer favours Arsenal to beat Chelsea with the Gunners given a 51% chance of overcoming Chelsea (22.5%).

Mikel Arteta’s men will also be banking on recent record against the west London side to ensure they remain in the hunt for their first Premier League title in 20 years.

Arsenal have lost just one of their last eight Premier League games against Chelsea, winning five and drawing two while their current four-game unbeaten run is their longest against the Blues in the league since a 19-game streak between 1995 and 2005.

The north London side will also be banking on the fact that Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino has never won a Premier League away game against the Gunners, drawing four and losing three of his seven league visits to the Emirates Stadium with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal lost their last home game 2-0 to Aston Villa and last lost consecutive league games at Emirates Stadium in April 2022, and last did so without scoring in November 2020.

The Gunners will also be keen to see Bukayo Saka net in another London derby to extend his recent record as the player with the most goal involvements since the start of last season.

The 22 year old has been involved in more London derby goals in the Premier League than any other player (17 – 8 goals, 9 assists).

He has scored 14 times for Arsenal this term in 31 appearances to equal his best goal tally in a Premier League season. The British-Nigerian has netted twice in nine appearances against Chelsea and have won five of these games, losing just twice.
