PSG seeking to score for the 40th consecutive Champions League game
Neymar, Mbappe and Messi set to devour Maccabi Haifa in Israel
Paris Saint-Germain will be seeking to score for the 40th consecutive UEFA Champions League game if they find the back of the net Wednesday when they face Israeli side, Maccabi Haifa in a group H game at the nearly 40,000 seats multi-purpose Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa, Israel.
Christophe Galtier’s side has scored in each of their last 39 Champions League group-stage games and could equal Real Madrid’s record of 40 if they find the back of the net on Wednesday.
Los Blancos originally achieved the feat between November 2008 and September 2015, and their streak was actually broken by PSG in a 0-0 draw during the 2015-16 group stage.
PSG opened their 2022/23 UEFA Champions League campaign last week with a 2-1 defeat of Juventus at the Parc des Princes with Kylian Mbappe scoring both goals for the host.
Maccabi Haifa will however be looking to defeat the Parisians again after eliminating them in the first round of the 1998/99 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. The Israelis won 3-2 in Israel following a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes.
It is however looking like an improbable result 24 years on as PSG have been utterly transformed in more recent years.
PSG have been in Israel relatively recently, beating Nantes 4-0 in the French Super Cup game, which was played in Tel Aviv on 31 July this year. Lionel Messi (2), Neymar and Sergio Ramos were the scorers.
