Race Analysis: How Ofili Lost Second Place to Hunt

The women’s 200m final at the Wanda Diamond League in Lausanne produced one of the tightest finishes of the season, as Nigeria’s Favour Ofili was edged into third place by Great Britain’s Amy Hunt.

Both athletes crossed the line in 22.32 seconds, but the photo-finish camera awarded Hunt the silver medal, as it were.

The split times showed Hunt’s slight advantage from the start, clocking 2.08 seconds at 10m compared to Ofili’s 2.10. Hunt maintained a narrow lead through 50m and 100m, while Ofili closed strongly in the curve to draw level heading into the final straight.

As they powered toward the line, the two were inseparable. The official timing system confirmed identical results down to the hundredth of a second, but Hunt’s sharper lean at the tape gave her the edge.

Kayla White of the United States took victory in 22.18 seconds, staying clear of the duel behind her.

Anavia Battle finished fourth in 22.65, while Switzerland’s Fabienne Hoenke and Léonie Pointet placed fifth and sixth. Shericka Jackson, the Diamond League record holder, did not finish the race.
