Rangers Petition CAF Over MC Alger Fans’ Misconduct In Abeokuta, Demand Protection Ahead Of Algiers Return Leg

Enugu Rangers have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents involving visiting supporters of MC Alger during their CAF Champions League fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
The Nigeria Premier Football League giants confirmed the petition in an official club statement released on Sunday, 19 October 2026, a day after the first-leg encounter against the Algerian champions.
According to the club, the petition centres on the alleged destruction of a stadium entrance gate, unauthorised entry into the stadium without payment of gate fees, vandalisation of stadium seats and other acts of disorder attributed to the visiting contingent.
In the statement, Rangers stated that they have requested urgent intervention by CAF, including the consideration of appropriate precautionary measures ahead of the return leg scheduled for Friday, 23 October 2026, in Algiers.
‘Rangers International FC, Enugu, confirms that it has formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents involving visiting supporters during and after our CAF Champions League fixture against MC Alger,’ the club stated.
The Flying Antelopes, who are playing their CAF Champions League home games at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, reiterated their commitment to fair play and the safety of all stakeholders.
‘Rangers International FC remains committed to fair play, respect for football regulations and the safety of players, officials, supporters and all stakeholders.
‘We have confidence in the established processes of CAF and await its response,’ the statement added.
The club also thanked its supporters for their continued loyalty and urged them to remain calm, disciplined and focused as preparations continue for the crucial return leg in North Africa.
Rangers are seeking to advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League, with the Algiers second leg expected to be decisive.
