Former Tottenham and Portsmouth coach, Harry Redknapp does believes Nigeria striker, Taiwo Awoniyi did enough to find his way into his list of Matchweek 13 best X1.
Instead, Redknapp, who managed Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka to win the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008 has picked Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi in his team of the week.
Former Premier League players, Alan Shearer and Gareth Crooks had picked Awoniyi who scored the winner for Nothingham Forest in their shock 1-0 defeat of Liverpool among the best X1 for the week but Redknapp believes Iwobi deserves it more.
Iwobi provided two assists in the Toffees’ 3-0 bashing of Patrick Vieira’s Crtsyal Palace at Goodison Park on Saturday and Redknapp believes the former Arsenal player was the difference maker for his team.
Redknapp, like many pundits acknowledged the game to be Everton’s best so far this season and says Evertonians will be delighted with the form of the 26 year old Iwobi.
”That’s the best I’ve seen Everton play for a while. The fans will be happy, and in Alex Iwobi, they’ve got someone that’s in great form. Two assists on the afternoon is great work by anyone’s standards. It’s good to see the Toffees on the up,’ Redknapp wrote in his weekly selection for BetVictor as their brand ambassador.
For the forward line, Redknapp dropped Awoniyi for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy who scored his first Premier League goal of the season in the Foxes’ 4-0 mauling of their host, Wolves at the Molineux.
