Outgoing FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura has revealed that the world governing body will be paying players FIFA World Cup prize money because of the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

Samoura made the revelation when she visited the Nigerian team in their dressing room after securing a place in the round of 16.

The FIFA Secretary General praised the NFF for being worthy ambassadors of the game for the African continent and revealed FIFA decided to be paying players their World Cup prize money directly because of the Nigerian ladies.

In a video of the visit trending online, Samoura said: ”It is because of you (the Super Falcons) that for the first time in the history of FIFA that the FIFA Women’s World Cup prize money will be paid directly to you, the players.’

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, are notorious for not paying players’ prize monies promptly and this must have informed FIFA’s decision to pay the players directly.

Prior to now, FIFA used to send preparation and partipating fees to its member federations with players negotiating the percentage they will receive from the money.
