Rhasidat Adeleke’s record breaking season continues with yet another 4x200m meet record
It’s looking more like it’s going to be a record setting 2023 for Rashidat Adeleke after starting off University of Texas’ 4x200m relay team to yet another record on Saturday.
The 20 year old gave the Longhorns the perfect start required for another record breaking run as the quartet made up of the Irish girl, Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred as well as Kevona Davis and Lanae Thomas ran 1:28.05 to set a new meet and competition record.
This came barely 24 hours after the 2021 European U20 double sprint champion had anchored the University of Texas sprint medley relay team to a 3:36.10
competition and meet record.
Adeleke will still run for the Longhorns later Saturday evening in the 4x400m relay final and will be looking to run a great first leg to complete a record breaking weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
The Irish-Nigerian seems certainly on fire outdoors after ending the indoor season with three lifetime best performances.
She set a new 22.52 personal best and Irish record in the 200m in January before breaking the 400m national record a little over a month later, stopping the clock at 50.33 to end the season as the fourth fastest in the world in 2023.
Adeleke was also in her school’s 4x400m relay team that ran 3:26.67 to rank the second best at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico last month.
The time ensured the University of Texas team finished the 2023 indoor season as the third fastest in the world.
