Rio Ferdinand: Why I Will Sign Victor Osimhen Ahead Of Harry Kane

Nigerian aiming to score in eight consecutive Serie A games

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand says he will pick Victor Osimhen ahead of Harry Kane if he is to sign a forward this summer and has advised the Red Devils to priortise the Nigerian’s transfer.

Ferdinand says the Nigerian’s age (24) and potential resale value make him a far more attractive proposition for United than someone like Kane (29).

“I think if I was talking about investing and looking after my money, I’d probably go for Osimhen,” the defender told BT Sport.

“There’s resale value with his age at 24 years old. It’s going to be a huge outlay.”

“I’d take either. I’ve got be honest with you, if Manchester United add either of those two players (Osimhen or Kane) to their roster they become title contenders. On form he [Osimhen] is flying.”

Osimhen has scored 20 goals in 24 games across all competitions so far this season with 18 of the goals scored in 19 Serie A appearances.

The former 2015 FIFA U7 champion leads the top scorer’s race in the Serie A with the 18 goals he has scored.

The Nigerian is expected to be in action this weekend at the Stadio Carlo Castellani where his club will face Empoli in a Serie A game.

He will be seeking to score his first goal in three appearances against their host.

Osimhen has scored in his last eight games across all competitions, his best streak since he plays for Napoli.

He is the first Napoli player to score 20 goals across all competition since Arkadiusz Milik in 2018/19.
