Rodgers: Iheanacho is ‘horrible’ to play against

Leicester City gaffer Brendan Rodgers says Kelechi Iheanacho has been outstanding for the Foxes so far this term after the Nigerian scored two goals and set up three more in the Premier League wins over Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Iheanacho started just one of the Foxes’ first 20 matches, against Brighton & Hove Albion in matchweek six September and the Nigerian had to wait until matchweek 22 to start his second game.

The Nigerian seized his opportunity by producing back-to-back double-figure hauls in a 4-2 win at Aston Villa and 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodgers is backing the Nigerian to continue to deliver for the Foxes and reveals why the 26 year old has found it difficult to start games, especially in the Premier League for the Foxes.

“He’s been outstanding. He’s a player that’s been really unfortunate. Jamie Vardy is a legend of the Premier League and this club and since I came in here, he’s been sort of the focal point really of the team. But of course, time moves on and it’s about managing Jamie now.

“Obviously for Kels with the players now that we have in, it really suits his game, how he links the game and so on. He’s at a prime age, so this can be his moment. He just needs to keep the level, the consistency and keep working hard. I’m delighted for him.

“He’s a threat, and he’s horrible to play against if you’re a centre-half because he’s so strong. He’s done great.”
