Ronaldo Hits 982 Career Goals, Moves 18 Away From Historic 1,000-Goal Milestone

Portuguese superstar scores as Al Nassr beat Al Faisaly 3-1, but VAR denies him a second goal

Cristiano Ronaldo moved within 18 goals of his historic 1,000-goal career target after scoring in Al Nassr’s 3-1 away victory over Al Faisaly in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.

The 41-year-old Portuguese superstar took his career tally to 982 goals after finding the net in the 49th minute at the Al Majma’ah Sports City Stadium.

Ronaldo thought he had completed a brace just three minutes later, but his second effort was disallowed following a VAR review.

Al Nassr had taken an early lead through Al Hamdan in the fourth minute before Ronaldo doubled their advantage shortly after the interval.

Bongonda pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 66th minute, but Angelo struck in the 79th minute to restore Al Nassr’s two-goal cushion and seal a 3-1 victory.

The result took Al Nassr to 22 points after 11 rounds of the Saudi Pro League, while Al Faisaly remained on seven points.

Ronaldo, who has made reaching 1,000 official career goals a major personal ambition, continues to close in on the unprecedented landmark.
