Sad night for Nigerian players in Europe!

It was a sad Thursday night for Nigerian players in Europe as they all crashed out of the Europa League and the Europa Conference competitions.

Victor Boniface, Gift Orban and Terem Moffi failed to fulfil expectations, firing blanks as their respective club, Union St.Gilloise, KRC Ghent and OGC Nice crashed out of the Europa League and Europa Conference League respectively.

Boniface scored his club’s only goal in the 1-1 draw last week at the BayArena in Leverkussen, Germany to take his tally to six in the competition but was effectively caged in the return leg Thursday evening at the Lotto Park in Brussels.

The 22 year old was in action for 81 minutes in the game before he was subbed off for Gustaf Nilsson.

At the London stadium, Orban could only get a yellow card as his side were hammered by rejuvenated West Ham 4-1 to qualify for the Europa Conference League semifinals.

Orban who has scored five times in the competition was on for 70 minutes in the game.

And at the Allianz Riviera in Nice, Moffi, who scored twice in the 2-2 draw at the St. Jakob Park in the first leg in Basel, Switzerland last week could not add to his tally for the 73 minutes he was on the field as he was subbed off for Nicolas Pepe.

Nice lost 2-1 after extra time to crash out of the Europa Conference League.

Earlier on Tuesday, Victor Osimhen had crashed out of the UEFA Champions League despite scoring in the 1-1 draw with AC Milan in Naples.
