Salah brace fires Trabzonspor to first Super Lig win

Trabzonspor secured their first victory of the new Turkish Süper Lig season after Mohamed Salah scored twice to inspire a 2-1 home win over Başakşehir on Sunday.

Salah opened the scoring in the eighth minute after Aral Şimşir’s cross caused confusion in the Başakşehir defence, with VAR confirming that the ball had crossed the line despite an initial corner decision.

The visitors levelled in the 19th minute when Eldor Shomurodov converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review for handball.

Salah restored Trabzonspor’s lead three minutes after the restart, combining with Enis Destan before calmly finishing from close range.

The Egyptian forward remained a constant threat and came close to completing his hat-trick, only for two late efforts to be ruled out, one for offside and another for a foul.

The victory lifted Trabzonspor to four points from their opening two league matches, while Başakşehir remained on three points.

Trabzonspor will now turn their attention to their Europa League qualifier against Ferencvaros, having lost the first leg 1-0 during the week.
