Senegal 1-0 Egypt: Sadio Mané Fires Teranga Lions to Third AFCON Final in Four Editions
Sadio Mané fired Senegal into yet another Africa Cup of Nations final, their third in the last four editions, as the Teranga Lions continue to establish themselves among the continent’s elite. Before this remarkable run, Senegal had only managed one final appearance in their first 14 AFCON campaigns, back in 2002.
The defending champions are now unbeaten in 17 consecutive AFCON matches, excluding penalty shootouts.
Mané remains at the heart of Senegal’s success. Since his debut, he has been directly involved in more AFCON goals than any other player. He is also the first on record, since 2010, to reach 20 goal involvements at the tournament, with 11 goals and nine assists.
For Egypt, however, the dream has ended. Mohamed Salah’s search for a first AFCON title is over, as is Egypt’s bid for a record-extending eighth crown.
Remarkably, Salah is still yet to score against Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, failing to find the net in six meetings between the two sides.
With Mané leading the charge, the Teranga Lions will look to add another chapter to their growing legacy in the continental showpiece when they face the winner of the second semifinal between Nigeria and Morocco.
