Serie A: Osimhen looking to set personal scoring record Vs Sassuolo

Victor Osimhen will be seeking to set a personal scoring record when he travels to the Stadio Mapei – Citta del Tricolore Wednesday night with Napoli to face their host, Sassuolo in a Serie A matchweek 27 tie.

The Nigerian has scored twice in his last two games and scored his first Serie A goal in over two months in Napoli’s 1-1 draw against Cagliari.

He will now be aiming to net again and if he scores, it will be his seventh in six games against Sassuolo, the highest he would be scoring against any team in Italy.

The 25 year old has netted eight times in 14 Serie A games so far this season and knows he needs to be scoring in twos and threes if he is desirous of retaining the highest scorer award he won last season in the Italian topflight.

He is some 14 goals behind run away leader, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and he has not been helped in the race by injuries and Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria.

Osimhen netted 26 goals from 31 matches last seaosn to become the first African in history to end a Serie A season as top scorer.

His goals also led Napoli to win their first Scudetto in 33 years.
