Seyi Akinwunmi quits as chairman Lagos FA

Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi has resigned as chairman of the Lagos State Football Association after over 12 years in the saddle.

The former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) first Vice chairman said he would quit the job when his tenure formally ended in January this year but he delayed the decision because it coincided with the state FA Cup, adding that it would have been irresponsible to do so in the middle of a competition.

‘I’ve resigned with the immediate effect as the chairman of the Lagos State Football Association. I’m not been pushed out rather was there an under current in taking this decision.

‘My time has come to an end but I will keep supporting football, the FA in any capacity I’m called upon. There’s no animosity with anybody in the FA.

‘It has nothing to do with the election but my desire to keep to the promise I made before coming on board. I’ve so many things that are delayed because of the FA, so it’s time to face them,’ he said.

Barrister Akinwunmi said he’s leaving the Lagos FA in hands of capable people who can replace him, assuring that he would not be missed because his board evolved a system that will run smoothly by the people he’s leaving behind.

On the rumoured ambition of becoming the chairman of the League Management Committee (LMC) board, Barrister Akinwunmi said his resignation has nothing to do with that.

‘I’m eminently qualified in all ramifications with my credentials but that’s not my aspiration for now. I leave my next move to God but I’m not planning for it. I’ve never discussed LMC with the NFF or anybody.’
