Shearer Tips Arsenal for Historic Title After City Stumble
Alan Shearer has boldly predicted Arsenal will clinch their first Premier League crown in 22 years after Manchester City’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Everton handed the Gunners a crucial advantage.
Arsenal, buoyed by a dominant 3-0 win over Fulham featuring a brace from Viktor Gyokeres and a goal from Bukayo Saka, now sit five points clear at the summit.
With three league fixtures remaining, Premier League and England legend Shearer believes Mikel Arteta’s side are on the brink of immortality.
‘Arsenal are five games away from being legends of that football club forever,’ Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast. ‘Win three in the Premier League and they’re done, win two in the Champions League and they’re champions.’
City, who still have two games in hand, looked set to close the gap after Jeremy Doku’s opener at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. But Everton roared back through Thierno Barry and Jake O’Brien, before Erling Haaland and Doku salvaged a point late on.
Shearer praised Everton’s spirited display, singling out Gianluigi Donnarumma’s saves as crucial in denying the Toffees a famous victory. He also warned that City’s defensive frailties could prove costly in the run-in.
‘Manchester City are not the same defensively. Everton scored three, it could have been five,’ Shearer noted. ‘It was a big night for Arsenal.’
With West Ham next on Arsenal’s schedule and a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid looming, Arteta’s men face a defining week in their pursuit of a historic double.
