Simon, Troost-Ekong, Eguavoen Listed In CAF’s Best X1 Of The Group Stage
Ndidi, Salah, Mane make substitutes' list
Nantes of France forward Moses Simon, Watford defender William Troost-Ekong and caretaker manager of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen have been named in CAF’s best XI of the group phase of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Moses Simon was named the best left forward while Troost-Ekong was named one of the two best centre backs.
Eguavoen who took over from the sacked German, Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles manager weeks before the tournament started was named the best coach.
Simon scored once and greatly inspired the Super Eagles to win all three of their group phase games.
Troost-Ekong marshalled the Super Eagles defence so superbly as the team conceeded just once and scored six times in three games.
Eguavoen, for the second time in the history of the tournament has now led a team to a 100% record in the group phase.
Egypt’s Mohammed Elshennawy was named the best goalkeeper while Liverpool forward Mo Salah was not listed.
Tournament top scorer so far Vincent Aboubakar was named the best striker.
Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is the only Nigerian to make it to the substitutes’ bench and he is joined by the Liverpool duo of Salah and Sadio Mane (Senegal).
