‘Something Big Is Coming’: Masai Russell Confident After 12.20 Monaco Record

American hurdler Masai Russell produced a flawless performance at the Monaco Diamond League, winning the women’s 100m hurdles in a meeting record time of 12.20 seconds.

Russell delivered a smooth and controlled race, clearing the hurdles with confidence as she continued her impressive run of form during the season.

“It felt like a good, clean execution. I was moving through the hurdles very well, and it felt good and smooth,” Russell said after the race.

The American believes her focus now is not on making major changes but on refining the small details that can help her reach even greater heights.

“Honestly, at this point, I do not think there is a place for me to improve on. It is really just perfecting the whole sculpture. Just putting everything together and doing the same thing I have been doing,” she explained.

Russell said consistency has been the foundation of her recent success and believes bigger performances will come as she continues to build on her strong results.

“I have been putting together some really good races and some really good times. When you do the same thing a lot of times, that is when the bigger performances come. So I know there is something big coming,” she added.

With no pressure on herself, Russell is already looking ahead to her next challenge in Budapest, where she hopes to continue her record-breaking form.

“I do not know what the meeting record is in Budapest, but that is where I am heading next. I am hoping to break the meeting record there and then continue it for the rest of the season,” she said.

Russell also revealed that she has maintained a relaxed approach away from competition, balancing intense training with moments of enjoyment.

“I am just having fun with it and letting the work that I have put in show itself. Before the competition, I like doing a lot of TikTok dances. I like recording videos and having fun. Last night, I had some sushi,” she added.
