Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi has been voted the man of the match in his club, Nothingham Forest’s 1-0 defeat of their host, Southampton at the St Mary’s stadium in matchweek 19 Premier League clash Wednesday evening.

Awoniyi scored the only goal of the match to lift Forest two points above the relagation zone.

The 25 year old has now scored the winner in three of the four matches Nothingham Forest have won this season and the goal at the St Mary’s stadium was his first away from the City Ground, Forest’s home ground.

Awoniyi scored the goal from his only shot on target and made one key pass in the match to earn 54.5% of the total votes ahead of Forest goalkeeper, Dean Henderson (23.0%) and Southampton captain, James Ward-Prowse (11.5%).

The Forest forward has now become the second Nigerian to be named the official man of a Premier League match after Alex Iwobi who was voted the best player on the pitch in Everton’s 3-0 defeat of Crystal Palace last October in a matchweek 13 game,

Iwobi got 54.1% of the votes ahead of fellow Toffee, Anthony Gordon who go 11.2% and another ‘Nigerian’, Palace’s Eberechi Eze who also got 11.1%.
