Southampton 2-1 Chelsea: Blues equal unwanted 27 seasons record

Chelsea lost 2-1 at Saint Mary’s stadium Tuesday evening to equal a 27 seasons unwanted record.

The Blues have now lost at least two of their opening five games to a Premier League campaign for just the second time in 27 seasons, after losing three of their first five in 2015-16 – eventually finishing 10th place that year.

Chelsea put up what Premier League pundit Leon Osman described as ‘un-Chelsea-like performance’ as Southampton fought back from a Raheem Sterling’s 23rd minute opener to lead 2-1 at half time, a result they successfully defended in the second half.

Osman said Thomas Tuchel’s side ‘are not controlling games like a top side should do. They didn’t have a sustained threat, they are off the pace.”

Tuchel agreed with the former Evertom man turned pundit.

“We are struggling with our focus and consistency in matches. We struggled to find answers and find the way back if things don’t go in our direction.

‘Things did today but we struggled after the equaliser. I don’t know if concern is the right word. I absolutely dislike to lose, it is the second time this season, I don’t think it takes a lot to beat us and this I don’t like.”
