Southampton seeking to strike deadline day deal for Paul Onuachu

Belgium newspaper, Het Nieuwsblad says Southampton are looking to strike a deadline day deal for Nigeria’s Genk forward, Paul Onuachu.

The Belgian club had earlier in the transfer window rejected the Premier League club’s offer for the Nigerian who is the top scorer in the Jupiler League with 16 goals from 19 games.

According to the newspaper, Genk and Onuachu have always had an agreement that any offer from a Premier League club would be taken seriously, and at the age of 28 it is clear that the player is running out of time to get his move.

Onuachu is also the record holder for the most goals in a single Belgian Pro League season after he scored 33 goals in 38 games in the the 2020/2021 season.

Onuachu has also been capped 13 times by the Nigerian national side, scoring three times for the Super Eagles.
