Sports Ministry appoints 10-man Interim Management Committee for the league
The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has set up a 10-man Interim Management Committee, IMC, to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, until a league board is put in place.
In a press statement released late Friday night and signed by Mohammed Manga, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry, the committee will be headed by a former National Sports Commission Director General, Gbenga Elegbeleye with veteran and respected journalist, Etubom Paul Bassey as its vice chairman.
”In line with the 10-year football Master Plan as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari towards the revitalization of the Domestic League, a 10-man Interim Management Committee (IMC) is hereby set up to oversee the affairs of the League until a proper professional League Board is put in place statutorily,” read the statement.
Other members of the IMC includes Davidson Owumi who will serve as its Head of Operations, philantrophist Kunle Soname and former Nigeria international, Daniel Amokachi.
Another journalist, Calvin Emeka Onwuka, Aliyu Adamu, representative of the NFF and that of the Nigeria Police Force as well as Barrister Danladi Ibrahim completes the 10-man committee with Olumide Bamiduro, a former Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, serving as its Secretary.
The Sports Ministry says terms of reference of the Committee will be announced shortly.
