Super Eagles get Etebo boost for Ghana games

 

The Super Eagles received a massive boost on Thursday night following the return to action of midfielder Peter Etebo in Watford’s 4-0 crash at the Molineux to Wolves.

The Nigerian, 26, has not featured for Watford in any competition since he copped a knee injury in the 1-1 draw against visiting Newcastle at the Vicarage Road stadium last September.

He was however back in action Thursday night after coming on for Tom Cleverley in the 73rd minute in the loss at the Molineux.

It was his third substitute appearance in seven games in the competition so far this season.

Etebo’s return will be a big boost for Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles manager ahead of the 2022 World Cup playoff games against Ghana later this month.

The Stoke City player who is on loan at Watford is among the players the coach has invited for the games after missing the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun early this year.

Meanwhile Samuel Kalu also made his second appearance for Watford since he joined from Ligue 1 side, Bordeaux this winter.

Kalu made his debut as a substitute in the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal last weekend and was subbed on again in the capitulation at the Molineux.

Super Eagles assistant captain William Troost-Ekong was adjudged not 100% fit after returning to training at the club and will now be waiting for the game against Everton next weekend to make his first appearance under new gaffer, Roy Hodgson.

Emmnauel Dennis was on from the start but could not add to the nine goals he has so far scored in his debut season in the competition.
