Super Eagles projected to remain 39th in next FIFA rankings, sixth in Africa

The Super Eagles are projected to remain as the 39th best football nation in the world FIFA releases its September world rankings on Thursday.

This is despite the Nigerians securing four points in their two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against the Cheetahs of Republic of Benin and the Amavubi of Rwanda.

The Super Eagles defeated the Cheetahs 3-0 at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo before going to Kigali to draw 0-0 with the Amavubi of Rwanda.

According to football rankings, the Super Eagles have not earned enough points to move them up after dropping by one point from 38th in June to 39th in July.

The Nigeria senior national team are also expected to drop to their lowest ranking in Africa since December last year.

The team will drop from fifth to sixth after Tunisia are projected to move up five places from 41st to 36th.

Morocco are expected to remain the highest ranked African team and number 14th in the world, followed by the Teranga Lions of Senegal who drops one point from 19th to 20th in the world.

Mo Salah’s Egypt are also projected to move up five places from 36th to 31st with reigning African champion, Cote d’Ivoire moving up five places as well from 38th to 33rd while Tunisia leapfrog Nigeria into 36th.

Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 opponents, Benin, Rwanda and Libya have mixed fortunes.

The Cheetahs are projected to move up two places to 89th, Libya will drop three places to 120th while Rwanda are projected to move up a step to 130th.

Argentina, France, Spain, England and Brazil are projected to be remain in the top five in that order.
