Super Eagles to begin 2025 AFCON qualifiers on September 7 in Uyo

Super Eagles will begin their campaign for another appearance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on September 7 when they face the Cheetahs of Republic of Benin at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital.

Nigeria have appeared in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on twenty occasions and has won the cup three times: the first time was in 1980 and they won a second title in the 1994, held in Tunisia and the third 11 years ago in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Super Eagles will not only be seeking for the three maximum points on offer to start their campaign with a win, they will also be looking to avenge their defeats in the hands of the Beninois who defeated Nigeria in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in June.

Former Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr is coach of Republic of Benin and was in charge in June when they defeated Nigeria for the first time in a competitive game.

The Nigerians will face the Amavubi Stars of Rwanda three days later at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
