‘Winning Matters More Than Records’: Lyles Confident Ahead of Diamond League Clash

At Saturday’s pre-Paris Diamond League press conference, American sprint star Noah Lyles made clear that his focus remains firmly on victory rather than chasing records.

Speaking with trademark confidence, Lyles emphasized that his goal this season is ‘just to have fun and perform well wherever I race,’ while giving fans ‘a reason to come and see us, by sharing an emotional moment.’

Asked about comparisons to Usain Bolt, Lyles dismissed the notion.

‘I don’t think about Usain Bolt’s records. My goal, every day, every week, every year, is to do better than the day before. The only thing I can control is myself,’ he said.

He highlighted the daily challenge of proving himself against teammate Jordan Anthony in training, calling it ‘a challenge I love.’

Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Lyles turned his attention to Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs.

‘How does it feel to face Marcell Jacobs? The question is for him, not for me. Is he ready? I am. It’s up to them to take up the challenge. I proved what I had to prove in Rome,’ Lyles declared.

He added that for the American public, ‘the time clock doesn’t count; what matters above all is victory. And what’s the point of a personal best if I get beaten? Who remembers those who lost?’
