Super Falcons Camp Complete as Senegal Arrive in Ikenne
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have assembled a full squad in camp ahead of their Women Africa Cup of Nations preparatory friendlies against Senegal, with the Lionesses of Teranga arriving in Ikenne-Remo on Tuesday night.
The reigning 10-time champions will host Senegal in the first leg on Friday at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, before the Lionesses play ‘home’ in the return fixture on Monday.
Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 4pm.
Head Coach Justine Madugu has called up Israel-based midfielder Josephine Matthias to replace Halimat Ayinde, who is unavailable for the two games. Only forward Gift Monday was expected to join the camp by Wednesday evening.
The Falcons’ roster blends seasoned internationals with emerging talents.
Established stars such as Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Christy Ucheibe are training alongside rising players including Comfort Erhabor, Shukurat Oladipo, Rofiat Imuran, Josephine Matthias, Kafayat Shittu, Joy Omewa, Omorinsola Babajide, and Blessing Nkor.
Nigeria, aiming for a record-extending 11th continental crown, will compete in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia, and debutants Malawi. Senegal, meanwhile, are drawn in Group A with hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.
The tournament, scheduled for July 25 to August 16 in Morocco, doubles as qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year. The top four teams will qualify directly, while the fifth-placed side will contest an intercontinental playoff.
