Super Falcons Thrash Comoros 5-0, Set Up Morocco Clash In LA 2028 Olympic Qualifiers
The Super Falcons swept past Comoros with a commanding 5-0 victory in Ikenne on Tuesday to seal a 7-0 aggregate win and advance to the next round of the women’s football qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Nigeria, who won the first leg 2-0, will now face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses for a place in the next round of the qualifying campaign.
Toni Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute after Uchenna Kanu capitalised on a goalkeeping error and squared the ball for the midfielder to finish from close range.
The Super Falcons stepped up their attack after the break, with Kanu doubling the lead in the 58th minute, heading home a cross from Folashade Ijamilusi.
Nigeria made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute when Payne completed her brace, converting a cutback from substitute Blessing Okpe after the winger beat two Comoros defenders.
Three minutes later, Kanu struck again, heading in another Ijamilusi delivery to complete her brace and take Nigeria’s lead on the night to four goals.
Christy Ucheibe rounded off the scoring in the 71st minute, converting a penalty after Okpe was brought down inside the box.
The emphatic victory came despite an injury setback for Nigeria, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade forced off in the 28th minute following a heavy collision. Ijamilusi replaced her and went on to provide two assists.
Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen also introduced Okpe at half-time, a change that helped Nigeria increase the pressure on the visitors in the second half.
The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to Morocco as they continue their bid to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
