SWAN, Kano Pillars and Rivers United Honour Late Ibrahim Galadima

Tributes have poured in from across Nigerian football following the death of former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, who passed away on Saturday after a protracted illness.

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) described Galadima as a ‘pacesetter and administrator per excellence,’ with President Isaiah Benjamin praising his sagacity and benevolent approach.

Condolences were extended to his family, Kano State, and the wider sporting fraternity.

Kano Pillars FC, which Galadima helped to establish, also mourned his passing.

The club highlighted his immense impact as a founding father and former Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, noting his role in shaping the team’s identity and success.

Rivers United FC joined in the tributes, calling his death a monumental loss to Nigerian football.

General Manager Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu described Galadima as a towering figure whose reform-minded leadership during the era of the Nigeria Football Association helped strengthen football governance.

He also recalled Galadima’s extensive career in sports administration, including roles with the Kano State Football Association, the National Sports Commission, and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, as well as his involvement in CAF youth competitions.

Born in 1948 in Fagge, Kano State, Galadima’s legacy spans decades of service to football and public life. He will be buried on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites, with funeral prayers scheduled at Fagge Juma’at Mosque in Kano at 10 a.m.

His passing marks the end of an era for Nigerian football, but his contributions to the game and to sports administration will remain indelible.
