University of Texas hails 20 year old Irish-Nigerian for her incredible feats in the 400m event

University of Texas has hailed Irish-Nigerian, Rashidat Adeleke for her incredible feats in the just ended American collegiate indoor season.

The Corporate Communication student came second in the 400m event at the NCAA Indoor Championships which ended Saturday at the Alburqueque Conventional Centre in Alburqueque, New Mexico.

In the course of the season, the 20 year old old sets a number of records, some of which have been broken and the University is not oblivious of these incredible feats.

In a tweet on its handle, @TexasTFXC, the University paid tribute to te emerging talent.

‘What a 400m indoor season for @rhasidatadeleke. Ireland National Record, Texas Program Record, No. 2 all-time in collegiate history and the NCAA 2023 Runner-Up!’, the school tweeted after the conclusion of the 2023 NCAA indoor championships on Saturday.

Adeleke, born to Nigerian parents, began her indoor season at the Cardinal Classic as the second leg of the 4×400 relay that set the NCAA-leading time of 3:30.55, which also ranked as the No. 13 performance in Texas history.

She ran a then world-leading and still subststing Ireland National Record time in the 200m with a time of 22.52 and finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.20 at the Dr. MLK Jr. Invitational.

Adeleke also ran the then world-lead and Texas programme record 400 time at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic with her time of 50.45. and was part of the winning 4×400 relay that broke the Texas programme record with a time of 3:26.73 and won the 200m with a time of 22.68 at the Tiger Paw Invite.

The Irish-Nigerian was the Big 12 Indoor 400m Champion with a then-collegiate record time of 50.33 seconds – a Texas progrmme record and ended her collegiate indoor campaign with a 400m silver medal (50.45) behind Britton Wilson’s University of Arkansas who ran 49.48 to win.
