Team Nigeria Begins Glasgow 2026 3×3 Basketball Campaign with Cayman Islands Win

Team Nigeria made a winning start to their men’s 3×3 basketball campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, defeating the Cayman Islands 21-17 in their Pool A opener at SEC Hall 4 on Friday.
Nigeria took control of the contest through a balanced team effort, with Esosa Okundaye and Ikechukwu Sean Nwamu leading the scoring with six points each.
Marcel Esonwune added five points, while Robert Ukawuba contributed four as Team Nigeria reached the winning mark to secure victory.
Cayman Islands forward Brad Lansdell was the game’s top scorer with 11 points, but Nigeria’s overall performance proved decisive.
The Nigerian team shot 75 per cent from the free-throw line and collected 20 rebounds, including 10 offensive rebounds, while limiting the Cayman Islands to 17 points.
The victory gives Nigeria an important early advantage in Pool A as the team continues its campaign in the men’s 3×3 basketball competition at Glasgow 2026.
