Team Nigeria Given Deadline Over Ogundiran’s Relay Eligibility
Technical Delegate Seeks Explanation for Nigerian's 100m Absence
Team Nigeria has been given until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, to submit medical evidence or another acceptable explanation if sprinter Blessing Ogundiran is to remain eligible for the relay events at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
In a formal communication issued on Wednesday by Technical Delegate Chris Cohen to the Nigerian delegation, organisers confirmed that Ogundiran did not start in the women’s 100m semi-final on Tuesday.
Under the competition rules, an athlete who fails to start is not permitted to compete in any other event at the Games unless a valid medical reason or other appropriate justification is provided.
The notice states that if Nigeria intends to field Ogundiran in the relay events, the team must provide medical evidence confirming that she was injured and is expected to recover in time to compete.
The required documentation must be submitted through the Technical Information Centre (TIC) at Scotstoun Stadium or via email before the stipulated deadline.
Failure to provide the requested evidence by the deadline will render the Nigerian sprinter ineligible to participate in the relay events, dealing a potential blow to Team Nigeria’s relay plans at the Commonwealth Games.
