Teen Sensation Annabelle Fasuba Smashes 60m PB at London Indoor Games
Teenage sprint star Annabelle Fasuba produced a stunning performance at the London Indoor Games on Saturday, smashing her personal best in the 60m and coming within touching distance of multiple records.
The 14-year-old double English Schools’ champion stormed to victory in the under-17 girls’ race with a time of 7.37 seconds.
Her run was just 0.03 seconds shy of both the new British under-17 record and Katherine Endacott’s senior City of Plymouth club record, while also falling only 0.02 seconds short of Katherine Merry’s UK record for a 14-year-old.
Remarkably, Fasuba’s time is the fastest in the world this year in the under-18 category, despite her not yet belonging to that age group. It also ranks among the top 70 fastest times globally in the senior category.
Her latest achievement adds to an impressive list of milestones. Last summer, she equalled Katherine Merry’s under-15 200m record and broke the British 100m record for her age group, previously held by Jodie Williams.
Fasuba will continue competing indoors at under-17 level for the next few months before transitioning to the newly-created under-16 category for the outdoor season.
She is the daughter of former African 100m record holder and 2008 World Indoor 60m champion Olusoji Fasuba, who made history as the first sprinter to win the African Championships 100m title three times in succession and was part of Nigeria’s bronze medal-winning 4x100m relay team at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Annabelle’s latest performance suggests she is well on her way to following in her father’s footsteps, with her blistering pace already marking her out as one of Britain’s brightest young sprint talents.
