Ten Hag Makes Man United History With Liverpool Win
Erik ten Hag has become the first Manchester United manager to secure his first ever competitive win with the club in a match against Liverpool.
The Dutchman achieved this after leading the Red Devils to their first Premier League win against Liverpool in nine encounters.
Manchester United have been disappointing since the start of the season but Monday’s victory showed an unrecognisable side of the team and Ten Hag says the boys have shown him what he wanted in his team.
“We can talk about tactics but it is all about attitude. There was communication and a fighting spirit. I wanted a different approach and a different attitude and that is what they brought on the pitch. It is only a start. We can play with much more composure and much more danger. Be a team, and have a good spirit and that is what we saw today,’ he said.
Premier League pundit Paul Ince says Ten Hag’s team truly showed a different spirit from their first two games of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
“Being a manager is a tough job and the last two weeks have been tough for Ten Hag. Today you looked at the teams and asked questions if it was the right one – he got his tactics absolutely spot on. The pace got them in behind Liverpool’s high line, they nullified the full-backs and they got it right,’ he said.
