Tesfaw named African Athlete of the Month for September 2024

Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) has named Ethiopia’s Yayesh Gate Tesfaw the African Athlete of the Month for September 2024.
Tesfaw’s remarkable performance at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, where she shattered the world record in the Women’s 1,500m T11 with a time of 4:27.68, earned her this prestigious title.
This achievement comes after breaking her own previous world record by nearly four seconds.
According to ASVG, ‘Yayesh Gate Tesfaw’s dominance, alongside her guide Kindu Sisay Girma, highlighted her incredible endurance and skill in the Paralympic arena.
‘Her victory is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and resilience, as she continues to inspire people across Africa and the world.’
‘I knew I had the world record already and I am happy to break it again. It means even more to do it here, in the Paralympic arena at Paris 2024,’Tesfaw said after her stunning performance.
