‘There Are No Limits’: Alfred Beats Thomas with Record-Breaking 200m Performance in Monaco

Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred delivered a sensational performance at the Monaco Diamond League, winning the women’s 200m in a national record and world-leading time of 21.50 seconds.

Alfred defeated Olympic champion Gabby Thomas in a thrilling race, producing one of the fastest 200m performances in history and underlining her status as one of the world’s leading sprinters.

The Olympic champion expressed her delight after the race, dismissing concerns about her start and insisting that the final result was what mattered most.

“It’s not about the reaction time, it’s about how you finish. I don’t care about my reaction time. I was first, and that’s all that matters,” Alfred said.

The Saint Lucian star revealed that she had spent a long time preparing for this moment and was thrilled to see her hard work rewarded with a record-breaking performance.

“I have been preparing for this for such a long time, so to finally see it pay off, I am just happy,” she added.

Alfred admitted she did not realise how fast she had run until she crossed the finish line and looked at the clock.

“I didn’t realise how fast it was until I crossed the line. I looked at the clock and saw my time, and that’s why I was screaming like at the Olympics. I have been looking forward to this for such a long time, and I’m just so happy to see that time.”

The sprinter said she entered the race hoping to run around 21.60 seconds but was delighted to surpass her own expectations.

“Today, I was actually hoping to see 21.6. I got 21.5, so I am happy nonetheless,” Alfred said.

With her latest performance, Alfred believes she still has room for improvement and is aiming for even greater achievements in the future.

“There are no limits right now,” she added.
