Tinubu Pays Super Falcons $100,000 Reward For Historic WAFCON Triumph

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 pledge to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The players have begun receiving payments amounting to approximately ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the presidential reward promised after Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final in July 2025.
The Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback after falling two goals behind, scoring three times in the second half to reclaim the continental title and extend their record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team with 10 WAFCON crowns.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed appreciation to Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the gesture as recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.
The payment follows a similar presidential reward to members of D’Tigress after they won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, securing Nigeria’s fifth consecutive continental title. Tinubu had also promised and delivered $100,000 rewards to the basketball team.
The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Shehu Dikko, has continued to emphasise athlete welfare, international exposure and the organisation of major sporting events as part of its approach to sports administration.
The Commission said it appreciated the President’s consistent support for Nigerian athletes, adding that fulfilling such commitments would strengthen confidence among athletes and sports administrators while encouraging sporting excellence and national pride.
It also noted that Nigeria had hosted about 30 international sporting competitions under the Commission, reinforcing the country’s profile as a destination for major sporting events.
